One of the most common additions to a fishing kayak is a milk crate. These crates hold the bulk of all the fishing equipment and other accessories that are needed for a successful trip. Many times, milk crates can be obtained from convince stores or grocery stores for free, but I have found the Sterilite Mini Crate to be superior to the standard crate.
The Sterilite Mini Crate can be purchased from Walmart. It measure 9” long 8” wide and 6” tall, a little bit bigger than a standard milk crate. The extra length of this crate is what makes it a superior crate for a fishing kayak.
The crate fits perfectly in the back for my Caster 12.5 as if they were made for each other. The crate is big enough to add 3 rod holders, a knife holder, a pliers holder and still hold all my tackle, anchor, sun screen, water and a few other miscellaneous items. And although the crate is not as sturdy as a standard crate, it is plenty strong for a fishing kayak.
