10/24/15 – 1,000 Islands Cocoa Beach Florida
Report By: Dan Hagan
Windy Day Full of Small Trout
4 of us decided to give the 1,000 Islands area of Cocoa Beach Florida a try this morning. Â This area is known for its multiple mangrove islands that are dotting the Banana River and in the past I have have quite a bit of success with Redfish, Trout and a few Flounder.
The 4 of us arrived before sunset and launched from Ramp Road Park. Â We all headed north looking to hide from the winds (about 20 MPH sustained winds) by getting into the mangrove lined canals.
Early topwater action was strange. Â There were a few upper slot sized Trout that where busting behind the lure, but never touched it. Â This was followed up by smaller trout doing the same thing. Â None of the fish ever touched the lure.
After switching to a swim bait trout in the 10-15″ range where plentiful, but nothing any bigger was ever caught.
Our group paddled a few miles around the islands in search of something more substantial but nothing was to be found.
At least we got out on the water!
