Customization – The Never Ending Story

When I first bought my kayak I picked up a few customizations along with it. I bought a crate, a rod holder (to compliment the 3 already included) and a few bungee cords. I figured that was going to be all the changes I would need to make to my kayak.

I have since learned that on every kayak fishing trip I take I find something else I want to either add, remove or change. While I am very happy with my kayak, I am always looking to make it better. Sometimes the changes are for the better, sometimes they are for the worse (causing even more changes).

I am currently looking for small cargo nets to add to the gunwales in the cockpit to hold frequently used items (such as pliers and a knife). I have moved 2 of the rod holders and changed their angle. I have added a storage crate inside the front compartment for a cast net and other items I only use when beached. I have……..

Well, you get the point. I am constantly changing the configuration of my kayak, looking for the perfect set up. The day I find the perfect set up, I am now CONFIDENT that I will either want something to change or maybe even want to upgrade the kayak its self.

So be sure, the day you buy a kayak (if you don’t have one yet) will be the day you start a long journey to unobtainable perfection, but the never ending journey is part of what makes the hobby so enjoyable!
