10-24-15 Trout

Windy Day Full of Small Trout

4 of us decided to give the 1,000 Islands area of Cocoa Beach Florida a try this morning.  This area is known for its multiple mangrove islands that are dotting the Banana River and in the past I have have quite a bit of success with Redfish, Trout and a few Flounder.

The 4 of us arrived before sunset and launched from Ramp Road Park.  We all headed north looking to hide from the winds (about 20 MPH sustained winds) by getting into the mangrove lined canals.

Early topwater action was strange.  There were a few upper slot sized Trout that where busting behind the lure, but never touched it.  This was followed up by smaller trout doing the same thing.  None of the fish ever touched the lure.

After switching to a swim bait trout in the 10-15″ range where plentiful, but nothing any bigger was ever caught.

Our group paddled a few miles around the islands in search of something more substantial but nothing was to be found.

At least we got out on the water!
