Video Taping Your Catch

With the advent of YouTube.com sharing video has become very easy and possible for just about anybody. Many fishermen are now video taping themselves while catching fish and posting the video online. Kayaks, how ever, present a special set of challenges that makes video taping a catch a little more difficult.

Limited Space For The Camera

Fishing Kayaks typically have more space for putting a video camera than other kayaks, but the space is still limited. One great solution is to find a camera (or iPhone) mount that fits either into a rod holder or a cup holder. There are many iPhone mounts made to fit in a cars cup holder that will work perfectly in a kayaks cup holder.

Limited Distance from Lens

Many cameras need a fair amount of space between the subject (the fishermen) and the lens to be able to capture all the action. On a fishing kayak there is not much space to get the distance, so the solution is a wide angle lens adapter. There are many wide-angle lens adapters available for almost every make and model camera ever built, including iPhones.

Water ALL Around

The biggest concern in a fishing kayak is the water that is all around that will kill any camera. Most cameras are NOT waterproof. There are a few models on the market that are water proof and can stand up to the rigors of kayak fishing, but for those with a non-water proof camera, under water housings or bags are available.

This is just a general overview of video taping your catch while fishing in a kayak, keep your eyes open for our upcoming series!
