Drifting for Flounder – My Results

After reading and writing about kayak drifting for flounder I decided to take my own advice. With the winter migration in full swing down here in Central Florida, I loaded up the kayak and headed to the Ponce Inlet area.

I brought with my a few different paddle tail type soft plastics and Berkley Alive Gulp Shrimp. My plan was to drag a paddle tail on the bottom while jigging a Gulp Shrimp.

The tide was outgoing and strong. I set up to drift toward the inlet in some of the canals in the surrounding area. On the first pass I caught a small flounder, about 10”. Second pass I hooked into a decent flounder and pulled him on board after a short fight:

The flounder measured 22”, one of my best this year. I continued to kayak drift fish for another 2 hours, landing 3 more flounders in the 12-17” range.

Not a bad day on the water!
